What the USDT premium is

The premium is the difference between the price of one USDT on an Indian exchange and the US dollar to rupee rate. A positive premium means Indians pay more for a digital dollar than the bank rate. It tends to rise when demand for USDT is high or when moving money in and out of exchanges is harder.

How we calculate it

Once a day we record the last USDT/INR price on CoinDCX’s public ticker and compare it with the dollar rate implied by CoinGecko’s Bitcoin prices in INR and USD. Premium = USDT price ÷ dollar rate − 1. Readings before launch aren’t available.
