Crypto tax calculator.
Work out the tax on your crypto trades under India’s rules: 30% on gains, 4% cess, and 1% TDS on sales.
How crypto tax is calculated in India
Profit from selling, swapping or spending crypto is taxed at a flat 30%, plus a 4% health and education cess, whatever your income slab. The only cost you can subtract is what you paid to buy the coin. Read the full explanation in our crypto tax guide.
A worked example
You buy 0.01 BTC when Bitcoin is ₹60,00,000, paying ₹60,000. You sell it later at ₹80,00,000 for ₹80,000.
- Gain: ₹80,000 − ₹60,000 = ₹20,000
- Tax at 30%: ₹6,000
- Cess at 4% of the tax: ₹240
- Total tax: ₹6,240
- TDS deducted by the exchange (1% of ₹80,000): ₹800
- Balance to pay when you file: ₹6,240 − ₹800 = ₹5,440
What this calculator doesn’t include
It leaves out surcharge, which applies only to high total incomes, and it assumes each trade is a separate coin or lot. If you hold the same coin bought at different prices, work out the cost of each lot you sold. For filing, see how to fill Schedule VDA and how to claim back excess TDS.

Are trading fees deductible?
Generally no. Only the cost of acquisition is allowed as a deduction. Some professionals include the fee paid when buying as part of the cost; check with your tax adviser.
